A beginner's guide to stoicism, and a journal of its modern application.
I’m a 32 year old web designer who has a wife and twin boys working in a small, but growing, agency. Lately I have been exploring frugality on a whole new level (Mustachianism) and surprisingly started exploring philosophy.
My wife and I were introduced to the Mr. Money Mustache site by a friend in the summer of 2013 and have embraced the approach to spending and saving in order to free ourselves up to enjoy life more. It’s through this blog that I discovered stoicism, in the post What is Stoicism and How Can it Turn your Life to Solid Gold?. Based on this I checked out A Guide to the Good Life by William B. Irvine from my local library and have been getting more joy out of life every day.
My goal with this site is to journal my progress, reflect on my actions and how I have properly and improperly reacted in situations. I hope others find this useful in figuring out their philosophy of life, which until recently I hadn’t really ever thought about with much intent. I’m no expert and I suck at a lot of parts of life, but with practice I hope to get better and this blog will help me track my progress and keep myself accountable.
